I loved Michelle’s story on how she became fascinated with Marketing growing up stemming from her childhood all the way through her corporate career of 16 years, including working for Microsoft for many of those years.
Michelle talked about the importance of having a good starting point, which is clearly knowing the problem you solve for your audience. She also stressed the importance of using the kind of words that come out of your client’s mouths on your marketing copy and website.
You also need to figure out your ultimate endpoint – e.g. is it to take advantage of a special offer? Do you want to land more discovery calls, sign up for a webinar, etc.? Once you have your starting and end points figured out, then this is where your marketing funnel comes into play to bridge this gap between the two.
Michelle also talked about the important parts of a good funnel. First, warming up your audience is key to bring in the right people. This is where you can attract them with stories, examples, good questions, etc. You also want to invite your audience in. This is where a good lead magnet comes into play. As you guys know, lead magnets was a big topic for us on several episodes in 2018, and on episode 91. And finally, you want to have a clear next step for your audience. Do you want them to hop on a call with you, join a webinar or masterclass, etc.?
I loved Michelle’s stories on her 1,000 failed sales calls that produced no results and the email list she rapidly built from being featured on a major publication that produced ZERO results in her bank account. This is a stark reminder that it is not about the numbers but about having the right audience in your funnels.
Michelle then went on to discuss how to set up a good marketing funnel and some good examples, one of them from a fashion client that totally became a game changer. This example was helpful because it clearly shows that funnels aren’t just for marketers.
Lastly, Michelle shared some of the tools that are out there. ClickFunnels is what Michelle uses, but there are also many others out there that can be suitable for your business, such as Leadages, Kajabi, Thrive Themes and more.
